Alabanza Leads The Way for Automated Web Hosting
With the emergence of the Web as a communications and
distribution medium, it is expected that at the very least each
business should have a Web site. As such, the demand for the
development and maintenance of Web sites has continued to
increase dramatically, along with the need for knowing how best
to host and manage these sites.
Alabanza was founded in 1995 from this basis and as a result
coined the phrase "hosting automation" by providing solutions
that significantly reduce the time and resources needed to
manage and host a Web site. Baltimore-based Alabanza (Spanish for
"Praise") specializes in providing Web hosting automation software.
Alabanza's Automated Web Hosting Software Suite is provided to Web
designers and developers, systems integrators, Internet service
providers, and telecommunications carriers. The software suite's
applications allow end users to automate administrative tasks,
manage content, and update Web sites with a significant decrease
in time and costs; all within a secure environment. Alabanza
recently released version 4.1 of its suite, bolstered by the
addition of a point-and-click Web site builder tool acquired from
OnNet Web Hosting.
Alabanza was an early adopter of Linux because of the ability to
create a more robust offering through access to source code and
lack of licensing fees, meaning more savings for Alabanza's
customers and end users.
The company employs 80 people. In fact, Alabanza just reacquired
its support center from VA Linux and moved 20 employees from Ohio
back to Baltimore. It had sold the support group business back
to VA Linux a year ago, but VA Linux decided to move its support
operations in house.
Alabanza's Founder, Chairman and CEO Tom Cunningham is a Baltimore
native and a 10-year technology veteran whose passion for the
Linux operating system and open source technology has driven
Alabanza to its position in the hosting automation market.
Assisting Tom on Alabanza's Management Team are Paul Zohorsky,
President, and Albert "Cal" Calvin, Chief Technology Officer. Paul
is responsible for overseeing partnership initiatives,
establishing a full-service software consulting practice and
assisting in day-to-day operations. Cal, a former Air Force
cryptographer, developed Alabanza's Automated Web Hosting Software
Suite.
Competing against such VC-backed companies as Sphera and Ensim,
Alabanza has funded its growth internally and will approach $15
million in revenues this year. Alabanza has posted consecutive
quarters of profitability. The company currently has over 500
customers in 50 countries that are managing close to a quarter
million Web sites. Partners include such world-class technology
and service providers as Cisco Systems, CyberCash, Qwest and SMARTS.
